Welcome

Welcome to the website for Ysgol Gymraeg y Gwernant. The school was established as a result of the increased demand for Welsh medium education in Llangollen. Ysgol y Gwernant was opened for the first time in September 2005.

The school has grown constantly as more and more parents have seen the value of a welsh medium education. Today there are 132 children on the register. There is a marked increase in the number of non welsh speaking parents that send their children to the school as they see the advantages of bilingualism.

There are 8 teachers and 9 support staff working in the school. The team is enthusiastic and works conscientiously to raise standards and continually improve the school.

We take pride in the high standard of achievement at the school and the wide range of extra-curricular activities is also important to us, with pupils experiencing success in a variety of fields from the Urdd eisteddfod to sporting activities. As a Welsh school the emphasis will be in promoting a knowledge and understanding of Welsh culture and a fluency in the Welsh Language. Bilingualism is of paramount importance to this school.

We hope to ensure a caring and happy environment for your child as well as providing a wide range of balanced learning opportunities for all children.

We also believe that we can only achieve the best for your child by close co-operation between home and school. There will be opportunities for you to share in your child’s education and the staff and I are always available to talk with you about any aspects of your child’s development.

We are concerned about all aspects of our pupils’ development and we hope that you will share with us in making this a successful period in your child’s life.

Our school's ICT Vision

Information Technology and Communication is an integral part of modern life today. Our aim therefore is to develop every child confidence in ICT to prepare them for the changing technological world ahead of them. By accessing the various and latest technological resources, the pupils. ICT skills will be extended through exciting and interesting methods. We ensure that all staff and pupils at Ysgol y Gwernant  have a positive  attitude towards ICT and will develop the necessary skills in the subject to aid cross curricular teaching and learning.
